Dear IVA High Community, 

Way to go Tritons! We finished the first semester of the 2021-2022 school year with intellectual courage, tenacity, and thoroughness. We are so proud of our staff and students for finishing the semester on a high note despite challenging circumstances. We are excited to start the new semester knowing that our students will continue to grow in intellectual character.

Report Cards

Report cards will be visible in the Aeries student and parent portal by February 1st. Report cards will be mailed home by the first week of February. Please read the linked letter which contains information about how to read your student's report card, class credit recovery, and report card comments.

WASC Visit

The accrediting agency for our college-bound students (WASC) will be visiting us virtually next week (Jan. 31st to Feb.2nd).  This is a 3 to 6 year self-reflection cycle that all high schools participate to allow students to attend four-year colleges and universities.  They read our report, observe classrooms, and hold various meetings with teachers, staff, students, board members, and parents.

End of the Semester Reflection

For each report card, IVA teachers take a lot of time and care to write unique comments for each student. These comments connect students' academic and social emotional progress to the intellectual virtues. 

During Advisory class last week, Mrs. Makenna and our teachers guided students through writing their own comment. The purpose of this activity was to provide students with the opportunity to give themselves acknowledgment for their successes and identify areas of growth. Below are a few comments that our students wrote during this activity. Student names have been removed to maintain confidentiality. 

"Dear (9th grade student)

This semester you have shown that if you put your mind to something you can get it done. Keep working on focusing on the work and paying more attention. You continue to grow in all your classes. You continue to develop your skills to the best of your ability. I am proud of you for making it this far in school during this pandemic."

"Dear (10th grade student),

This semester you have grown the most in thoroughness. For example in algebra I see your responses are mostly very thorough. And I see you continue to grow in your courage in class. And I am proud of your autonomy because I see you are able to have self thinking in class. But mainly keep working on your courage because I know you can be able to take the risks in class.

The virtue you need to grow in the most is your courage because I notice you don’t speak up much in the class. You continue to develop your growth in curiosity because you are sometimes able to ask questions in class. Keep working on your courage."

"Dear (12th grade student),

I'm proud of you for not giving up this semester. You are a strong and hardworking person. You were able to handle having a job and focusing on school at the same time. You have grown in intellectual courage and I'm proud of you for that. I want you to continue to grow and expand. But I know that you could have done better. You let yourself get stressed out. Next semester don't be so hard on yourself, just do better this time. The one thing you need to work on is embracing struggle and not being afraid of challenges. Keep your mind in your work and be stronger and wiser with school."

Upcoming Field Trip Information

Snow Day Field Trip: 

Sign up for IVA High's first snow day! Join Mrs. Briceno, Mr. Schmidt, and Mrs. Mauter for a day of snowboarding or skiing. On February 15th, a small group of students will be heading up to Big Bear Mountain to shred the slopes. Interested in attending? Complete the Google Form ASAP!

Medieval Times Field Trip:

Our all-school field trip is almost here! After popular demand, IVA High students will be heading to Medieval Times on Thursday February, 24th. Students will experience an 11th century inspired feast and cheer for knights competing in jousting and sword fighting! Google permission forms and more information will be released in the upcoming weeks. Make sure to mark your calendars!
